That might help get people's minds off things, once they have had time to get over the death toll, and heal any injuries.

But in my experience, even if you are distracted, the hurt does not go away. Especially when you have to pass the people responsible in the halls, see them graduate, see them get the things they want.

[She huffs out something like a laugh.]

Which brings us to why I got in touch with you. Anyone who is not drugged stupid to deal with the death toll has probably put two and two together by now, and Ciel did not do himself any favours with how he was talking to people.

Which leaves him doubly vulnerable, now that he no longer has that defence, and made it clear that he is Sebastian's weakness.

[She dips a hand into her satchel, and pulls out several pieces of paper, bearing sketches of what looks like a pair of gloves with a heavy wrist cuff, and notes in Cyrillic writing.]

That is why I wanted to suggest getting him this. It's an electroshock weapon - similar to one I use, but modified to remove the lethal settings. The learning curve is much shallower than a knife or a gun, and it will be harder to take from him when he can use any contact with someone with a central nervous system to stun them.

This version? Not very. Most of the weight of the originals is the stronger capacitor. And the gloves can be removed from the cuffs - their main purpose is to allow him to deliver a shock with any part of his hand. With just the cuffs, he could fire a short-range dart, or discharge an electrical burst through the cuffs themselves, it just makes for a smaller striking area. Here--

[She bends to set her own mug down, then rolls her sleeve back to show the chunky black bracelets she almost always wears.]

Mine are heavier, but if you want to get a rough idea for how they feel, you can try one on.

[Yelena grasps the bracelet in her other hand, pressing a discreet release set into the side. It hinges open, and she pulls it free of her wrist, tapping something on the underside before she hands it to Aerith.]

Here. It just snaps closed. Don't worry, you will not set it off by accident.

[It isn't heavy at all, in the range of slightly overbuilt jewellery. Light enough that it won't hamper the movements of someone who lives and dies by her reflexes, even if she's been engaged in prolonged exertion.]

It is.

[She pauses a moment, then clarifies:]

For contemporary designs. There are older versions that are heavier than the ones I use, but the technology has come a long way over the years.

It's possible. Using magic, maybe, instead of technology. The first world we stopped at after I was brought to the Barge, there were people who had stunning spells, and enchanting items to deliver them quickly is a logical next step.

[She had, in fact, tried to get just such an enchanted item, but the commission process would have lasted much longer than their time in that world.]
