[Because dogs are good company and no one throws them out of the Barge lounge, Aerith; that's why. She'll hang up here, and then head immediately over, sliding into a stool and flagging down whoever's behind the counter to bring her a whiskey. Bear the Belgian Malinois curls up at her feet, leash trailing on the ground next to him.]
[People love animals here, in all sorts of forms, it's true. When Aerith comes in, her eyes light on the Malinois, but up to Shaw, curious as she approaches.
Not too fast though, as she knows that can make dogs nervous, and they haven't been introduced.]
They're gorgeous Shaw. I don't think we have any dogs like this back home.
[And...this dog, at least isn't a black Labrador. It might have made her heart punch in her throat if she had the reminder of Zeke by them.]
I've thought about trying to organize a club night together here, even put out feelers on the network once, but-- it's not the same as a real club in a real city, you know?
[Not all of her assassination work had been performed in seedy areas, but some of it had - enough that she's been in the underbelly of at least half of her world's major cities.]
You spent a lot of time there? Gotta say, I didn't take you as the red light district type.
So much so, that I made friends with an eco terrorist group.
It's not as bad as it sounds though.
[She chuckled, gently clinking her glass back.]
My mom would have been beside herself with worry if I didn't tell her where I was going. I only ran away once. We talked about it though, when I came home.
Someone else could ask. Let you know if they think you'd want to know.
[Maybe that would just compound the problem, carrying the risk of one more person keeping a difficult secret. But on the other hand, maybe having an intermediary from a different world - someone with no personal stake - would be a relief.]
Re: audio
[She's not sure why Shaw is, but hey. More the merrier?]

[Shaw says, the pride in her voice clear. The dog pops up and makes his way over to Aerith, sniffing at her shoes.]
He works missions with me back home. So what're you drinking, are you a cocktail girl?
no subject
[Aerith smiles, and waits for Bear to finish sniffing, so she can present her hand for Bear to smell. She's in no rush. The night hasn't started yet.]
But yeah, I'm a cocktail girl. Hmm...let's go with...a Cosmopolitan.
At least to start. I'll just pass out if I go straight into whiskey again.

[Shaw remarks, watching the Cosmo being made rather than looking directly at Aerith.]
Which makes them a good choice. Nothing good ever comes from letting alcohol-enhanced grief take the driver's seat.

[She shakes her head. Her smile is a little crooked.]
This is just for socializing. Not getting drunk. That's the goal. You, me, and Bear are here for a good time.
A...girls night.
"which makes them a good choice for this" is what i meant up there, rip
[Shaw downs another large swallow of her drink.]
I've thought about trying to organize a club night together here, even put out feelers on the network once, but-- it's not the same as a real club in a real city, you know?
all good, all good <3
But...it isn't like the city, no. We can't scam guys for drinks, we can't dance with strangers...it's a different experience.

You scam guys for drinks?
no subject
It was pretty easy. I just made sure not to do it at the brothels.
no subject
Why, what would they do to you if you did?
no subject
It'd make things kinda awkward to clear that up. I don't want to get in the way of the people working there- they're busy enough.
no subject
Are they common where you're from? In New York, they're all pretty underground. Strip clubs are a little more mainstream.
no subject
Not in Midgar, no- even if it was the capital city and all.
It was just in one sector, under the city plates. Kinda the place to go to for entertainment that wasn't strictly legal.

I don't. At least, it wasn't my every night kind of stop. But it was in the sector next to mine.
For safety and for keeping an eye on people and- sometimes escape- I got familiar with it.
It was a busy place. Good to lose people in, if I didn't want my mom to know I was being tracked.

[She leans in, clinking her glass against Aerith's.]
I didn't sneak out or get in trouble when I was a kid; my mom would have killed me.

I'm not sure if she's alive or not though. Been too scared to ask.
no subject
Who would you ask? You know someone who knows?
no subject
Reno, maybe. I'm scared to see the blank look on their faces before they shake their heads.

But- if it would be...I know that it would be an obligation too.
