[ For the record he does bark a short chuckle. He's just not typing it out. ]

Thanks. There's healing potions for this demonstration but it's good to have a backup I know will work. Hm. You're okay meeting outside the counseling office?

[ Which is across from the infirmary. He's not going to ask she comes in Especially not after the Otherworld and even if he has seen her near before. ]

[ Well, that's actually amusing. ]

He's behaving. And I'll be using it on me whether he suggests it or not.

[ Vincent can absolutely get poisoned even if he might not actually die outright from it. And he's not going to have it get around that he forced an inmate to test an antidote for a poison on themselves. ]

So be gentle. Though I'll keep your question in mind for the future.

[ Vincent might be joking. But he also might not be joking. The question is, what level of awful will someone have to be to get Vincent to invoke petty revenge?

Vincent might have thoughts about Aerith. Like 'sure she's nice and kind but really, what sort of life did she have growing up in the slums near a place like Wall Market? ]

Did I mention the man's name in the ledger is The Dark Urge?

[ Vincent requested an already made antidote. And a primer on the herbs involved. and a lesson book on the basics of that world's alchemy. AND he's asking to borrow the materia. ]

I'll be interested to hear your opinions on that.

Hanna knows what he did wrong. He doesn't need to be poisoned over it.

[ Hanna might need something to do that serves for reparations and lessons why not to give into whatever urge led to this situation again. And that, as much to help Hanna move on as to serve any 'punishment'. But being spite poisoned was not the way to go. Or revenge for that matter. ]

How long will it take?

He's in the medical field. And he looks fairly ordinary.

[ Well you know besides that he's a half elf. Still, that's probably what makes it more alarming. ]

I like honey better than sugar.

[ This may or may not be true. Probably a morbid joke. But with that he finishes the communication. And by the time she arrives, he'll be waiting outside the counseling office for the exchange; a quick enough thing so that Aerith doesn't have to linger too long near the infirmary. And besides, he does have an antidote to test. ]

[ You are talking to Vincent Valentine, former Turk and walking Monster-In-A-Box. The skew on 'ordinary' might be a bit uncalibrated even by Gaia's standards.

And you thought this was the end! But it isn't. ]

Who is the supervisor for produce gardening in the Greenhouse?

[ Aerith was over ornamentals wasn't she? ]

[ Nothing! ...Probably. ]

Thanks.

[ Anything else?

...

...
... oh hey a followup text with an explanation. ]

Durge wants to speak with the warden over cultivating the bulk of the materials needed for his potions that can supplement supplies in the infirmary.

[ .... ]

For the record, I didn't come up with that name. He did.

They're native species to his world. At least where the plants are concerned. I'll let you borrow the book I requested on the subject from the Admiral.

[ Whaaaaat Vincent are you only now mentioning that you have an entire book of plants native to an alien world? Well, it does mostly focus on the ones used in alchemy but still. ]

Besides permission, some might be difficult to grow. At least one seems to be... hm. Well. Might be best that I just ask for the harvest on that one directly.

[ Last thing the Barge needs is an accidental yellow musk creeper infestation. ]

cw: plant horror, corpses

[personal profile] coffinturk 2024-09-12 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I was reading it.

[ He had totally absolutely not forgotten to mention it! Look, he had poisons on his mind at the time. And surely he needed to make sure it was on hand to reference!

absolutely no excuse vincent. ]

Only the petals are needed. It won't stay in the pot. Seems to have a nasty tendency to reproduce by implanting offshoots in creatures it kills. Then the offshoot animates the corpse.

[ Specifically humanoid creatures. Clearly the book in question is a fun read. ]

[ Good question. He is also not going to engage an answer for what they both know would have been a bad idea. ]

I'm not entirely sure. To reproduce, probably. They're carnivorous but that might be manageable.

[ Not like there isn't raw meat available. The trouble though... ]

The entry is mostly an overview and focuses on the dangers to people. And doesn't mention alternative food sources. It worries me that the plant is cunning. Durge implied there might be a way.

You can speak to him about it. I'm not sure it's worth the risks.

[ And at the end of the day when someone endorses careful cultivation of a plant that is cunning enough to use musk to lure in victims, kill them and turn their corpses into zombie minions, you have to take a good hard look at what definition of 'if precautions are taken' the individual has. ]

[ There is a short pause before he responds. ]

True. Though when you say it like that I have concerns. Remember who those victims would be.

[ Is that... rebuke? Even if his phrasing suggests he isn't sure he's reading Aerith's meaning right. ]

It's fine.

[ At least it's understood. Vincent will explain himself here in a moment, but the time it takes another message to arrive suggests it took him a bit to rewrite it a few times. Or at least think about how to say it right the first time. ]

In a place like this, people come to treat death too lightly. It's dangerous to do that. But I might have been overthinking it. Sorry.

I'd be interested to know what he proposes. I'll make sure to lend you the book tonight since he'll be spending today making the potions from supplies I requested.

I know.

[ He should know better. And in part that's why it took him so long to compose his message before. ]

I'm not sure what I expect. Maybe I'm overthinking there, too.

[ He can admit he's judging on some biases based on the name theme and status of the Dark Urge. ]

I'm probably the last person people would want to be judge by based on appearances.

[ Oh look, a joke. ]
