Nanaki slipped into Aerith's room some time after one of the alarms went off. Even after Vincent destroyed the ones on level 4 the continued random alerts distressed him. Aerith's scent helped calm Nanaki and he curled up on the floor to wait for her.
His head lifted as she returned to her room and he hoped his presence here wouldn't startle her. He waited a moment for her to notice him and then asked softly, "Are you all right?"
She wasn't surprised to see Nanaki here. He was a friend, and she left the door open for him. And the alarms...if they hurt her ears, she knew it had to be worse for him.
And the reminder of past alarms...
"Come on. Did you want some hot chocolate or something before we go back to bed?"
Because they would sleep in the same bed. Nanaki needed the comfort, and he was also cozy.
Nanaki got onto his paws and walked over to Aerith. He bumped into her gently. His tail did a little flick as she mentioned hot chocolate.
"Is that safe for drinking right before bed?"
Look at him, trying to be all responsible like a good boy. Aerith probably didn't have to try hard to read him though; he would like some comfort food before sleep. He always wanted that.
She chuckled, and bumped against him back gently, a hand going gently over his back, fingers brushing over his fur.
"I think at this point, it's safer if we have it. No tea or coffee, but a little something warm...I think it'll be good for us." She smiled at him, her expression soft.
"We can maybe think of what we want to have for breakfast. Maybe. If it doesn't make us hungry." He was a good boy. And right now, she was ready to spoil him rotten since...well. It would make them both feel better.
"I'll do it the old fashioned way: melting a chunk of chocolate into milk."
She pulled away, but not without one last touch, motioning for him to join her in the kitchen area. Thankfully, it was all open space, giving both plenty of room.
"Well, if you're always hungry, we can talk about breakfast, but not have it." She shook her head. "I don't know about you, but I'll wake up if I have breakfast this early. Force of habit. And Zack'll be disappointed he didn't get to eat with us."
He followed her enthusiastically, excited by the prospect of the warm chocolatey drink. He found a spot that was hopefully out of the way although he wished he could help somehow.
"Hmm. A full stomach will sometimes put me to sleep. On the other hand, it may just give me too much energy to fall back to sleep. But I think breakfast should wait till a reasonable hour."
She didn't mind him not helping . She was happy with the company.
"So breakfast later." Aerith agreed, smiling at Nanaki. She was puttering around the kitchen, getting the saucepan, the ingredients, ensuring that they'd have the hot chocolate soon.
"And we can hang out in the Greenhouse if you'd like. Or...are you working? Other than the warden stuff?"
"Oh, hn. I don't have a an assignment yet. So no work besides checking in with Zero later in the day. I'd be happy to spend time with you in the greenhouse."
"That's good to hear." Hopefully that meant there weren't too many incidents. Though he did wonder after all that had gone on his his arrival.
"I'd like to help you if I can." Not that he wouldn't mind a nap under a tree. But right now he wanted to be useful, needed. Surely there was something he could do in the greenhouse that would be useful.
She nodded. "I've only heard it used a few times. There are signs in the stairwell- that was because Corvo, a former Inmate, thought that...well, he was being duped and went on a spree."
She missed him, for all he had hurt people. He had been confused, from what she understood.
"I could use help digging out weeds. Also with a big project where I'm relocating the rose bushes and circling it with jasmine bushes. Plus, finally creating the reed pond- but I need to see Abel's plans first, and Ilde's plans with the waterfall."
"I can definitely help dig out weeds." He said as he pawed briefly at the earth. That would be an easy task and he could do it every time he came in for a visit. A little bit of an area each day or so. That would help cut them back so Aerith's garden would stay beautiful.
"And I can help with the other stuff, too. I can carry a lot of heavy stuff if I get it just right so feel free to ask me to move things around for you to plant it where you need it. I don't mind helping in the water either."
He laughed, too. She was probably right. He could dig way better with his paws than with her hands! "Who's Iris?"
He didn't really understand the whole 'werewolf' thing yet. He'd heard about them but didn't know any of the specifics yet.
"Is Wu Xin Wutian?" He didn't know there was anyone else from there world here, that was interesting. Of course, he also didn't realize that wasn't actually the case. "Does he actually help out with the watering or is suppose to and you usually end up doing it?" Because that's not nice of him if so.
"Yeah! Zack and Cloud should help out with the heavy lifting. That's what they're good for." He was definitely teasing about it. He could, too, but not as well as them. "We can chat while we direct them with the heavy stuff." Yep, definitely joking.
"She's the one of those who can transform into a wolf. There's a couple of others who can transform into animals- someone can also turn into a tiger, and I think some can turn into wolves...? I'm not sure how it works?"
Werewolves were wild. And Arthur had a magic bracelet, but she didn't know that.
"But no, Wu Xin isn't Wutian. He claims to be a monk but he's...mostly a teenager that likes to nap."
In trees even. She sighed. "He slacks off a lot, but if I get firm with him, he'll do it. And Zack and Cloud..."
She laughed under her breath. "They'd be very helpful. Maybe we can provide the water when they need a break?"
For sure teasing. The two of them are too hardworking to slack off.
"Werewolves? Those are real here? For sure?" Well that was something! It certainly explained all the smells on the deck. He got that there were a surprisingly large number of dogs and cats on the ship, but he hadn't expected wolves. Or humans that turned into wolves.
"Well I'll get onto him, too, if he slacks off! He shouldn't offer to help if he's just going to be lazy about it."
He was more bark than bite but the rudeness was intolerable, really!
His tail flicked once in amusement. "Definitely. We can get them whole bucketfuls if it would help them cool off!" And be hilarious to boot.
"For sure." She nodded. "I don't know how Iris does it-or who the others are."
It didn't seem very polite to ask. But there were a lot of animals on board, surprisingly. A stoat, cats, dogs...goats. Bees. So many bees.
"To be fair, he's an inmate. He's been assigned to the job. But if you want to give him a gentle scare- it might be good for him. I do like to keep the watering on schedule. And...I have way too many projects that I handle myself."
And she could ask for more. She thought the watering was fine, so long as it was followed.
Though the bit on watering Zack and Cloud made her giggle.
"Maybe! But maybe not too much. We don't want to make Cloud pout too much. He'll wilt."
Poor Cloud. Poor Zack too, but she could apologize and kiss him- if he didn't splash her back first.

He liked the thicker, more succulent taste provided made that way. He licked his lips in anticipation.

"Not from my knowledge. So, I'd love it if you came by. Maybe enjoy a nap under the trees or something."

At least she thought so.
"Wu Xin is supposed to help with the watering- he's the bald one with the robes. And Zack helps me with heavy lifting sometimes. Cloud too."
She grinned. "It could give us a great reason to just hang out and chat."
