Character Name: Aerith Gainsborough
Series: Final Fantasy VII (Original Continuty)
Age: 22
From When?: At Aerith’s canon death, within the Ancient City Technically, it would be when she’s run through from behind by Sephiroth, before joining the Lifestream.
Warden Justification: Aerith has been through a lot. She’s seen some of the worst people, corrupted by the need for knowledge, power, and greed. But she has also has lived with people who have no power at all and are filled with kindness. Aerith is patient, kind, and compassionate, with empathy in spades. She’s also not the type to let people get away with nonsense that she thinks is wrong either. Aerith is not the type to resort to force unless necessary. But verbally, she has a way of gently getting people to see her point of view, without bashing them over the head with it.
Really, for her, this is a training ground to be a warden of the Lifestream, on her own planet. Baby steps before taking on a bigger role.
Item: the Materia Holy
that is hidden in her hair ribbon. However, it can be used for warden item only.
Abilities/Powers: Powers for Aerith can be summed up into two camps:
Her Cetra abilities and her combat and magic abilities.
Combat/magic abilities: Using a rod/staff and materia as her medium, Aerith is able to use spells for attacks. While she can use summons, and elemental spells (such as fire, ice, etc), Aerith’s specialty is healing and defensive spells, even to the point of revival in the original game.
Otherwise, Aerith, while resourceful with using her environment around her (such as a metal chair), take the staff, she can’t fight back.
Cetra abilities: These are more intangible. She hasn’t reached her peak at this point in canon, which occurs when she returns to the lifestream. However, she is known to commune with the planet, and vice versa. It is mostly uncontrolled, uneducated, and very much a learning process. Aerith has been known to have an awareness of the deaths of those close to her, or associated with her as an unconscious awareness.
She has also been able to impart knowledge to sentient creatures (Red XIII) and speak to others (specifically Cloud) in a dream. It is difficult to know how much Aerith is capable of, as these are things that tend to go into the category of either subconscious awareness, or in times of desperation.
Aerith can, at least, claim to have a good poker face and sensitivity towards other's feelings. There have been times when she straight-up lied about her knowledge, including what she is.
I am going to go with the assumption that most of her Cetra abilities are nerfed, as they’re on the ship, not the planet.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Aerith is not the sort of person who’s going to beat someone into submission. It’s true that she is playful, joyful, and is not the type to be pushed around. However, as a warden, she’s also not the type to be pushed herself. She has her limits. While she is the type to offer all the chances in the world, she is also stubborn and will do things her way.
Her default is more of a gentle push towards what she feels is the right choice, to be a friend more then to be someone with a position of power over someone else. But if that’s what she needs to do, that’s what she will do. She’s far more of the type that will erode people’s less savory inclination over time, by questioning or overrulling by doing what she wants to do and show them it’s fun to do xyz, rather then, say, hit someone with a baseball bat.
The only type of person that she may not be able to work with is someone who is of a scientific and/or medical inclination. And that is less about her ability to be logical, and even reckless, but having to do with early childhood trauma due to experimentation she witnessed and had to take part in.
It’s not that she would become violent, but that she would emotionally and possibly physically shut down to protect herself.
Deal: Making sure that the planet doesn’t die and doesn’t get struck by a meteor would be great. If she could see Zack again, that would also be a really sweet bonus.
History: Original Continuty only!
Sample Network Entry:
Heya!
I know this is out of the blue, but! There was something I wanted to say. I think it’s very important, especially if you don’t know much about flowers.
Because…I noticed something serious. Someone has been stepping on the flowers.
Now- I know some of them look like monsters, or not like you’re used to.
But! That doesn’t mean you should step on them. I know it’s a little silly to ask but- some of them won’t survive if you do.
So don’t step on the flowers. Okay?
Sample RP: One of the safest places she could find was the greenhouse. She loved it. It was not her church- it would never be her safe place- but the Greenhouse had what she needed.
Flowers. Plants. Trees. Even if there were little apples that had pincers, Aerith felt herself fall in love with the place. It wasn’t her place, but it was the closest place she would feel like herself. Maybe the only place she could be herself.
She knew there was a chapel where she could contemplate what had happened to her. What she had done, the guilt that covered her like a mantle now, from seeing the faces of her friends and loved ones. But this was not the time for it. It was time to look at what little earth and dirt she could find in this place.
Maybe recalling the dirt in her hands would keep her from shivering in distaste from the cells at night.
Aerith took a deep breath, and went onto her knees, kneeling in front of a flower bed. There was no need for a tool shed, not yet. Instead, she let her hands reach into the soil and felt peace flow into her. There were no whispers from the flowers. Nothing from the earth. Her expression flickered from peace to dismay, realizing this was something else she had lost in coming here.
And that was how Aerith felt herself sit back on her heels as she stared at the flower bed. Her hands came up as she was lost in thought, smearing dirt onto her face. A clean face wasn’t as important as her settling her ideas in her head.
